The Norfolk Jacket was originally designed as a shooting coat that stayed down when the elbow was raised to fire. It was named after the Duke of Norfolk and made fashionable after the 1860s in the sporting circle of the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII, whose country residence was Sandringham House in Norfolk.

The Somontes is a contemporary interpretation of a Norfolk jacket, fusing authenticity with modernity. The versatile jacket can be worn for country pursuits, but looks equally dashing in town. It is named after the exclusive Somontes club in Spain, which our Founder The Countess of Lucan frequents. The style is influenced by vintage jackets worn by the aristocracy and film-stars from past eras, but is brought up-to-date in the style-stakes with a modern silhouette and state-of-art sustainable fabrics. Galway is a region in the West of Ireland, in the province of Connacht. It is known for its beautiful blue-water bay and is a place close to the Lucan’s hearts. It is perfect inspiration for the Galway blue Merino tweed, which has a soft handle and beautiful drape. Pops of azure blue in the topstitching are like the light dancing on the water and the rich copper lining reflects the magnificent sunsets, renowned in the area.

Description

Somontes is a stylish, single-breasted Norfolk jacket with functionality foremost in mind. Features include a half belt, action back and internal recoil pockets. The style has statement tiger’s-eye horn buttons and can be worn with an open revere collar, or buttoned up to the neck in chillier weather.  It is equipped with capacious pockets to carry shooting gear, but these could equally well accommodate I-Pads, phones and modern-day paraphernalia. Tailored in deep-blue Merino lambswool, the style is perfect for country or urban living. Lucan signature trademarks include ‘pops’ of colour, a vibrant lining and contrast topstitching.
